PSALM TWENTY FIVE GOD'S WAY. "Could you please show me the way to....?" How many times have we been stopped by some similar question, by some traveller who is seeking the way? In this psalm the singer requests that the Lord should show him His ways and teach him His paths. The psalm is in alphabetical arrangement, making it easier to commit to memory. We need to remember that we are not able of ourselves to find the right ways of God. The request is, to be taught to understand the manner of living which is pleasing to God. How can I know God's way? The psalmist pleads, "Lead me in the truth and teach me; for thou art the God of my salvation, on thee do I wait all the day." Without this WAITING UPON GOD our minds can be so confused with life. The New Testament advice is, "Consider Him, lest ye be weary and faint in your mind." No state of mind gives the enemy success in battle better than a state of confusion. We need to see distinctly the boundaries between truth and error - between right and wrong. God will teach sinners in the way. He will also teach the meek in His way. If you know it all - you can't be taught. Unfortunately, we are living in a society which knows it all - and are lost. Who then can know God's way? "What man is he that feareth the Lord?. Him shall He teach in the way that he shall choose. His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth. The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him; and He will show them His covenant." Two very important things are promised here:- 1. He shall be taught to choose. Choosing is the most difficult part of life. Every day is full of choices. These choices materially affect our lives. It is so easy to choose for others, but when it comes to our turn to choose - Oh! What a problem!" To know God's way is to be given the power of right choosing. 2.The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him. SECRET can be translated - counsel or friendship. It was in this sense that Abraham was called the friend of God. Reading the life of Abraham, one is struck by his ability to make the right choices. This ability is particularly emphasised by the wrong choices made by others. Abraham had the presence of God giving Counsel. It is a great mercy to be allowed to understand God's way. Perplexity is a very great trial. Clearness of mind is a great blessing. God will instruct you in the RIGHT CHOICE if you seek His way. Copyright (c) 1995, Hedley Palmer.
